Dear Friends of World Peace,

Happy Saka Dawa! According to the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, today we celebrate the birth, enlightenment, and attainment of full nirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha.  We wish each of you and all of you the blessings of this holy and happy day!

Here in the nation’s capital, we are also observing another aspect of today’s date: just three weeks from today, the Kalachakra for World Peace 2011, offered by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, will open.

As the opening of the event comes ever closer, there are a few reminders and a bit of news we'd like to share with you:

Offer your personal gift, an Act of Kindness, for the Dalai Lama’s 76th Birthday

Enjoy a simple, free, and meaningful way to honor the 76th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on July 6. You can promise your own personal Act of Kindness, to be done in his name by using the pledge page on our website.

For his birthday, we will print all the pledges and offer them to His Holiness as a unique gift, and tell him that these many acts of kindness, large and small, were done around the world in his name. We have received pledges such as calling someone who is ill or lonely; working one day a month at an animal shelter; donating items to a food pantry or homeless shelter; and being more patient with someone challenging!

Please help us spread the world so that as many people as possible can participate in the wonderful birthday present. Send the link to your friends: http://kalachakra2011.com/actsofKindness.html

July 9:  Honor the cause of World Peace on the grounds of the US Capitol

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will discuss the pivotal issue of World Peace on the West Lawn of the US Capitol Building on the morning of Saturday, July 9 (the program will begin at 9:30 am, but the grounds of the Capitol will open to the public at 7 am). This free talk by His Holiness is sure to be a memorable and historic event. All those attending the Kalachakra are welcome and encouraged to attend, along with the general public!
